LAHORE: Left-arm pacer Muhammad Amir and middle-order batsman Haris Sohail have withdrawn from the ‘bio-secure’ England tour, citing personal reasons.
Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has confirmed the development in a statement today (Thursday). According to the statement, Amir has withdrawn so that he can be at the birth of his second child in August, while Sohail will miss the tour because of family reasons.
The statement further said, “Pakistan will send 28 players and 14 player support personnel for three Tests and three T20Is to be played in August and September. The squad as well as pre-series and series schedule will be announced in due course.”
Pakistan is due to play three Tests and three Twenty20 internationals starting in August, with hosts England providing “bio-secure” arrangements in closed stadiums and hotels.
PCB is in contact with England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) for the national team’s early departure to England after they decided not to hold training camp for players due to prevailing COVID-19 in the country.
As per details, PCB is waiting for ECB’s response as they have requested for additional practice matches and training sessions.
Earlier, three West Indian players – Darren Bravo, Shimron Hetmyer, and Keemo Paul – withdrew from the England tour over Covid-19 fears.
The West Indies team had reached England on Tuesday and will play the first of three Tests in Southampton from July 8.
