The Sindh government has decided to start double-decker buses and new EV buses in Karachi from next week, while announcing new routes for the People’s Bus Service in other districts of Sindh.
A meeting of the Transport Department was held under the chairmanship of Sindh’s Senior Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon.
During the meeting, Sharjeel Inam Memon was briefed on the progress of development work on the Yellow Line BRT and Red Line BRT. A briefing was also given on launching the EV taxi service in Karachi and the second phase of the Pink Scooties scheme.
Sharjeel Inam Memon said that it is expected that the double-decker buses and the new EV buses will arrive in Karachi by next week.
He said that the Sindh government intends to launch the EV taxi service by December and bring an additional 500 buses during the current fiscal year.
These e-buses will serve around 200,000 passengers daily, featuring depots, charging stations, and a modern fare system.
The initiative aims to make public transport cleaner and more efficient for urban commuters.
Sharjeel Memon added that new routes of the People’s Bus Service in other districts of Sindh will also be launched very soon.
He instructed the transport authorities to complete operational preparations regarding the new routes.
In addition, a 16.5 km elevated expressway from Karachi Port to Qayyumabad has been approved to ease traffic congestion and reduce travel distance to M-9 Motorway by 26 km.
