Former Afghanistan fast bowler Shapoor Zadran is currently in critical condition and receiving treatment in an intensive care unit (ICU), prompting concern across the cricketing community and among fans.
The 38-year-old’s condition is said to be extremely serious, with his family providing updates and appealing for prayers.
According to reports, Zadran was rushed to the ICU following a severe medical issue, where a team of doctors is closely monitoring his condition. At times, his situation has reportedly become highly alarming, requiring constant specialist care.
Meanwhile, former Pakistan captain Shahid Afridi has expressed his well wishes. In a message on social media platform X, Afridi said he had spoken to Zadran’s brother and was deeply saddened to hear about his condition.
Afridi added that Zadran had always been a fighter on the field and expressed hope that he would show the same resilience during this difficult time.

Zadran represented Afghanistan for more than a decade, taking 43 wickets in 44 One Day Internationals and 37 wickets in 36 T20 Internationals. He was also part of Afghanistan’s squad in multiple global tournaments, including the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup.
One of the most memorable moments of his career came during the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup, when he scored crucial runs in Afghanistan’s historic first victory against Scotland.
He also had a brief but impactful stint in franchise cricket, including participation in the Bangladesh Premier League.
Zadran announced his retirement from international cricket in 2025. His contributions, particularly during the early development of Afghanistan cricket, continue to be widely recognised. The cricketing fraternity is now united in hoping for his swift recovery.
