Iran’s Supreme Leader Mojtaba Khamenei said in a statement shared on social media that the country’s navy is prepared to inflict fresh losses on its adversaries, adding that Iran’s naval forces are fully ready to deliver new and “bitter defeats”.
Meanwhile, Iran’s Deputy Foreign Minister Saeed Khatibzadeh said during a media briefing that any US attempt to blockade an Iranian port would be illegal, stressing that Iran’s defence posture extends across the wider region.
He also referred to remarks by former US President Donald Trump, who reportedly warned that failure to reach an agreement by Wednesday could lead to military action.
Khatibzadeh criticised the statement as contradictory, questioning what was meant by suggesting that the American public would decide.
He added that Iran would continue to defend itself, saying the country would persist “as long as the last Iranian soldier remains”, while noting that war would not yield positive outcomes and urging the United States to recognise this reality.
