Oil and Gas Development Company Limited (OGDCL) has announced a major oil and gas discovery at its Baragzai X-01 (Slant) exploratory well in Kohat, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, further strengthening Pakistan’s domestic hydrocarbon prospects.
The company shared the update in a notice to the Pakistan Stock Exchange on Wednesday.
OGDCL operates the Nashpa Exploration Licence with a 65% working interest, alongside joint venture partners Pakistan Petroleum Limited (30%) and Government Holdings (Private) Limited (5% carried interest).
According to the company, testing in the Lockhart Limestone formation showed encouraging results. During a cased-hole drill stem test, the well produced 3,765 barrels of oil per day and 11.2 million standard cubic feet of gas per day at a wellhead flowing pressure of 4,080 psig.
Drilled to a total depth of 5,170 meters, the well targeted multiple formations within the license area. Earlier tests in several formations had also indicated the presence of commercially viable oil and gas reserves.
