As of today, the second day of Basant (February 7, 2026), all official government festivities at Liberty Chowk have been cancelled due to the recent tragic incident (blast) in Islamabad.
Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz has cancelled the Mega Basant Show at Liberty Chowk and all her Basant-related engagements in mourning.
The government has taken this decision to express solidarity with the families of the martyrs. Provincial Information Minister Azma Bukhari has also confirmed the cancellation of all official programs.
Although the formal festival has been halted, security in the city remains on high alert. Police have been directed to take strict action against the use of chemical strings and illegal kite flying.
Until yesterday evening, a massive rush of citizens was observed at Liberty Chowk, and colorful preparations were complete; however, following the latest decision, no government-sponsored festival is being held there now.
