A major rescue and debris-clearing operation is ongoing at Karachi’s Gul Plaza following a deadly incident that caused massive destruction and loss of life. Authorities say valuable items, including gold, have been recovered from the rubble, while DNA analysis continues to identify victims as search teams work to access remaining parts of the damaged building.
According to South District Deputy Commissioner Javed Nabi Khoso, during debris removal today, one and a half kilograms of gold were also recovered. The gold was found in a part of the building where a jeweler’s shop was located.
He said that the recovered one and a half kilograms of gold have been handed over to the shop owner.
Meanwhile, Police Surgeon Dr. Samia Syed said that so far samples of 71 human remains and bodies have been collected, and the identification of 16 individuals has been completed with the help of DNA.
She explained that because the bodies were burned, the DNA process has become complicated, and it is not possible to share further details at this time.
Sadar Gul Plaza Management Committee President Tanveer Pasta claims that the incident has caused losses exceeding 10 billion rupees, and the bodies of some martyrs are still missing.
According to the Director General of Rescue 1122, about 10 to 15 percent of the building consists of areas that rescuers have not yet been able to access, and search operations will be conducted in those areas today as well.
