A shocking incident of illegal wildlife ownership came to light in Lahore on Wednesday when a pet lioness attacked an eight-year-old girl, raising fresh concerns over the dangers posed by keeping wild animals in residential areas.
According to a statement from the Deputy Inspector General (DIG) Operations, An eight-year-old girl sustained injuries when a pet lioness attacked her in Lahore’s Bhekewal Pind area. the child suffered wounds to her leg and ear and was rushed to a nearby hospital for treatment. Her condition was reported to be stable.
Investigators revealed that the lioness was being kept illegally at a private residence in the area. Following the attack, the owners allegedly fled the scene with the animal in an attempt to evade arrest.
Police, working alongside teams from the Punjab Wildlife Department, launched a search operation and tracked the suspects to the Nawankot locality. The spokesperson said the accused were arrested and the lioness seized within three hours of the incident.
Officials confirmed that the suspects did not hold a valid licence to keep a wild animal, and legal action has been initiated against them.
