In response to a petition against the dissemination of immoral content on the Pakistani social media platform TikTok, the Peshawar High Court sent a notice to the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA).
The PTA is required by the court’s brief order to provide a thorough report on the installation of a firewall intended to prevent or regulate the uploading and sharing of offensive and illegal content on Tik Tok.
The petitioner expressed concerns in the petition regarding the widespread distribution of immoral content on TikTok, claiming that the platform’s shared content endangers social norms and public morals.
In response, the court ordered the PTA to give detailed information about the legal and technological steps it has taken to monitor and limit such content. The court specifically requested information regarding the firewall technology or filtering system the authority intends to put in place.
For its part, the PTA told the court that it is currently installing and updating systems intended to filter or block unlawful content on social media sites like TikTok.
According to the authority, these systems are necessary to stop the uploading and dissemination of content that might be illegal in Pakistan, particularly with regard to morality, decency, and public order.
In order to distribute responsibility for social media regulation in Pakistan among all agencies involved in content oversight, the petitioner also asked for more time during the hearing to include other pertinent authorities as respondents in the case. In order to give all parties involved more time to argue and respond, the court agreed and postponed the case until February 11, 2026.
