The Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC) has launched a comprehensive road rehabilitation program across the city, with an estimated cost of approximately Rs5.54 billion.
The project aims to improve transportation facilities and modernize and strengthen Karachi’s urban infrastructure in a sustainable manner.
According to a KMC statement, under the Sindh government’s vision to provide citizens with safe and smooth travel facilities, rehabilitation work has begun on 26 internal roads with a combined length of 68 kilometers.
The civic body said in a press release that these roads serve as vital links between residential and commercial areas and Karachi’s major thoroughfares, and are used daily by a large number of commuters.
The selected roads are spread across various districts and towns of Karachi and include Olympian Islahuddin Road, Naqqash Kazmi Road, Sardar Ali Sabri Road, Sibt-e-Akhtar Road, UP Mor Road, Pir Bazaar Road, Al-Aminah Road, Rahimena Road, several blocks of North Nazimabad, Sakhi Hasan Street, 19-D Road, Roads No. 04 and 05, Badr Chowk Road, ZMC Road, Faqeer Colony via Mominabad, Mesham Lee Road, Mission Road, Chand Bibi Road, Jinnah Square, Liaquat Market, Khokhrapar Daal Khana Road, Liaquat Road, Mehran Depot Road and Hashim Raza Road.
The roads were carefully selected based on traffic load, public usage, and their importance to daily commuting and economic activity. The rehabilitation work is expected to improve road surfaces, enhance durability, and lead to better traffic flow and road safety.
