Karachi Commissioner sets sugar price at Rs143/kg

Karachi Commissioner Syed Hassan Naqvi has issued a new official price for sugar in the city, with a notification now in effect.

According to the notification, the wholesale price of sugar in the city has been set at Rs. 140 per kilogram, and the retail price at Rs. 143 per kilogram.

It is worth noting that recently, sugar is being sold in the retail market for up to Rs. 190 per kilogram.

All shopkeepers will be required to prominently display the official price list, the notification said.

All wholesalers, retailers, and departmental stores have been strictly instructed to implement the new prices. Commissioner Naqvi warned that legal action would be taken against anyone found violating the official rate.

Pakistan has recently been importing significant amounts of sugar in 2025, primarily to counter domestic shortages, stabilize soaring prices which hit Rs200/kg, and manage lower-than-expected local production due to climate issues.
