The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) has made it mandatory for all SIM cards to be registered in the name of the actual user.
PTA has issued guidelines regarding the responsible use of SIMs for telecom users. PTA said that using a SIM registered in someone else’s name is a violation of the law, and full responsibility for any misuse of a SIM will rest with the registered user.
PTA said that compliance with regulations regarding calls, messages, and data usage is mandatory, and legal action may be taken in case of violations.
PTA further said that users must ensure responsible use of their SIMs and telecommunication connections. Users will be individually responsible for all calls, messages, and data usage made from their SIM or device.
According to PTA, users are required to comply with all relevant rules and regulations. In case of violation, necessary action may be taken.
Earlier, PTA started a phased shutdown of illegal SIMs. In the first phase, fake SIMs and SIMs registered on canceled national identity cards have begun to be blocked.
According to reports, illegal SIMs are being blocked based on data obtained from NADRA. In the second phase, SIMs registered on expired identity cards will be blocked, and in the third phase, SIMs registered in the names of deceased persons will be blocked.
