Sindh’s Local Government Minister, Nasir Hussain Shah, clarified that the e-Challan system will only be applicable to residents of Karachi, and no reductions will be made in fines.
Speaking to the media in Karachi, Nasir Hussain Shah stated that in a recent meeting of the Sindh Solid Waste Board, it was decided that divisional boards across the province will be activated and the system for cleaning and waste collection at all levels in Karachi will be improved. He emphasized that garbage collection from homes should be mandatory to ensure the city’s cleanliness.
The minister also criticized MQM, stating that the party tries to portray itself as strong by making such statements. He added that MQM had previously made comments regarding the creation of a new province, and if necessary, the government would handle them appropriately.
Nasir Hussain Shah stressed that the e-Challan system will be enforced solely for Karachi residents and that no fines will be reduced. He added that all stakeholders must work together for the betterment of the city.
He further stated that local governments are being empowered and questioned why MQM chose to stay away from local government elections, while PTI had abolished the local government system in Punjab.
Recently, public discussions had emerged in Sindh regarding demands for the reduction or non-enforcement of various e-Challan fines.
