After approval by the joint committee of the Senate and National Assembly on Law and Justice, the draft of the proposed 27th Constitutional Amendment will be presented in the Senate today.
The agenda for the Senate session has been issued, according to which the report of the Standing Committee on Law and Justice on the 27th Constitutional Amendment will be presented in the House.
Senator Farooq H. Naek will present the report of the Standing Committee related to the 27th Constitutional Amendment, while the Law Minister will present the amendment bill in the House for approval.
Yesterday, the joint parliamentary committee of the Senate and National Assembly on Law and Justice approved the entire draft of the proposed constitutional amendment, approving 49 amendments clause by clause.
In the joint session, after detailed consultation on Article 243 of the Constitution, it was approved, and the clause related to the establishment of constitutional courts was also approved.
The committee approved the amendment to extend the period for deciding pending cases from 6 months to 1 year. If a case is not pursued for one year, it will be considered disposed of.
The opposition parties boycotted the committee meeting. Members of PTI, JUI, PKMAP, and MWM did not attend the meeting.
According to sources, no decision has yet been made on the proposed amendments of the government’s allied parties. These proposed amendments include the Awami National Party’s suggestion to change the name of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
The government assured the ANP that their reservations would be addressed; however, on the proposal to increase assembly seats in Balochistan, the government sought more time. Sources said a final decision on both amendments will be made today after further consideration.
