Customs conducted a raid in Karachi’s Tariq Road area and recovered a large quantity of smuggled clothes and other goods. The purpose of the raid was to curb illegal smuggling.
According to details, a report quoting sources claimed that the raid was carried out after receiving information about the presence of smuggled clothes and other goods in a market located on Tariq Road.
Shopkeepers protested against the Customs raid, and the demonstrators set a mini truck on fire. Police resorted to baton charge and aerial firing to disperse the protesters.
It is worth mentioning that earlier too, Customs authorities had recovered illegal cloth worth millions of rupees from shopping malls on Tariq Road during major operations.
In the past as well, protesters have demonstrated on Tariq Road during Customs raids and operations, indicating that the Customs teams face difficulties during crackdowns against smuggling.
