KARACHI: Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) leader Muhammad Amir Siddiqui has submitted a motion of adjournment in the Sindh Assembly against the imposition of heavy traffic fines in Karachi.
In his motion, the MQM lawmaker urged the government to immediately halt the issuance of excessive challans by the traffic police, terming the move unjust to citizens given the city’s deteriorating infrastructure.
He argued that implementing laws designed for developed countries and modern cities in a city like Karachi—where roads are broken and traffic systems are dysfunctional—amounts to injustice towards the public.
Amir Siddiqui maintained that Karachi’s citizens are already suffering due to damaged roads, faulty traffic signals, and poor management, and imposing heavy fines under such conditions only adds to their burden.
He called on the Sindh government, the traffic police, and the transport department to provide immediate relief to the public, suspend traffic fines temporarily, and focus first on repairing roads, restoring traffic signals, and improving the overall traffic management system.
