KARACHI: The State Bank of Pakistan (SBP), the Banking Services Corporation (SBP-BSC), and the Teach the World Foundation (TWF) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) aimed at promoting financial literacy and advancing an inclusive financial system in Pakistan.
The partnership particularly focuses on empowering persons with disabilities and communities with limited access to financial services, ensuring their meaningful inclusion in the financial ecosystem.
The signing ceremony took place at SBP-BSC Karachi, where Managing Director SBP-BSC Meheraj Mehmood and TWF President Arshad Anees represented their respective organizations. The collaboration reflects the shared commitment of both institutions to create an enabling environment for financially underserved segments of society.
SBP Deputy Governor Saleem Ullah also attended the event and emphasized the importance of the partnership. He noted that the central bank prioritizes the promotion of digital financial literacy and outreach to underprivileged children, reaffirming SBP’s dedication to expanding access to financial services for all segments of society through targeted initiatives and strategic partnerships.
Addressing the event, SBP-BSC Managing Director Meheraj Mehmood reiterated the organization’s commitment to encouraging youth participation in the financial system. He revealed that the State Bank aims to educate 10 million people on financial literacy by the end of FY2028, while SBP-BSC has set a target of reaching 1.2 million individuals during FY2026. So far, the organization has successfully reached 3.4 million people.
He added that the collaboration with TWF marks an important step toward realizing SBP’s vision of making financial services accessible to all, including persons with disabilities. He emphasized the need to eliminate structural barriers and adopt innovative approaches to strengthen financial literacy and build an inclusive financial system.
Meanwhile, TWF President Arshad Anees stated that financial inclusion is a powerful enabler of economic potential among Pakistani citizens. He said the partnership with SBP-BSC will create new opportunities for financially marginalized groups, promote sustainability, and contribute to Pakistan’s overall economic growth.
