The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) is set to renovate the National Stadium Karachi next month, sources confirmed on Tuesday. The project will include the remodeling of stands, similar to the recent renovations at Lahore’s Gaddafi Stadium, aimed at enhancing the viewing experience for spectators.
This renovation is part of a broader effort to modernize Pakistan’s cricket venues following upgrades to Karachi, Lahore, and Rawalpindi stadiums ahead of the ICC Champions Trophy 2024.
In the first phase, the National Stadium saw significant improvements, including a new state-of-the-art pavilion, digital screens, LED floodlights, and thousands of new seats. The pavilion now features ICC-compliant dressing rooms, hospitality boxes, and media facilities.
However, sources said PCB currently has no plans to install roofs over Gaddafi Stadium’s stands.
Separately, the PCB is working with the Capital Development Authority (CDA) to construct a new stadium in Islamabad. While the CDA will manage the facility, the PCB will oversee cricket operations and event management.
