The Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) has placed individuals showcasing lavish lifestyles on social media under strict surveillance.
According to media reports, the FBR has collected data on more than 100,000 wealthy individuals who flaunt their wealth but fail to file tax returns.
Non-filers spending heavily on weddings have also been targeted, with official action set to begin from October 1.
Officials stated that people displaying luxury lifestyles online while staying outside the tax net will now have to account for their finances. With the help of a dedicated social media lifestyle monitoring team, the FBR has compiled comprehensive lists and data on these individuals.
People showing off their wealth on social media without filing returns will be flagged by tax authorities.

Those displaying expensive cars, motorcycles, yachts, bungalows, flats, farmhouses, designer clothes, jewelry, and watches without reflecting this lifestyle in their tax filings will face action.
Sources said even individuals throwing cash at wedding events or wearing $20,000 suits without disclosing such expenses in their returns will be investigated.
NADRA has been assisting the FBR in identifying such people, collecting details of their expenditures, credit/ATM cards, and foreign travel records.
The FBR has reiterated that the deadline for filing income tax returns is September 30 and will not be extended.
