A gang of armed bandits launched an attack on a police check post within the jurisdiction of B-Section Police Station, opening indiscriminate fire on the post and nearby shops, local sources reported.
During the assault, the criminals abducted a policeman and fled toward the katcha area along the Indus River — a region notorious for criminal activity due to its difficult terrain.
Police have called in additional contingents, and an exchange of fire is reportedly underway between law enforcement personnel and the bandits.
The katcha belt has long served as a stronghold for outlaws involved in kidnapping for ransom, armed robberies, and other crimes, with gangs equipped with sophisticated weapons continuing to challenge the writ of the state.
