In collaboration with China, the Pakistan Navy has identified significant natural gas reserves beneath the seabed, as reported by national media on Tuesday.
The revelation was made by Retired Rear Admiral Fawad Ameen Baig during an interview with a private news channel. He highlighted that Pakistan’s “blue economy” remains largely untapped, offering vast potential through its marine and mineral resources.
Baig credited the Pakistan Navy for its vital role in maritime exploration, noting that a recent survey conducted with Chinese assistance confirmed the presence of sizeable offshore gas reserves.
He stressed the need to attract international investors equipped with capital and advanced technology to harness these resources, warning that without such support, this national wealth could remain unutilized.
The former naval officer also remarked that Pakistan’s economic growth has often been hindered by external forces engaging in fifth-generation warfare to discourage investment. Yet, he voiced confidence that the newly formed Special Investment Facilitation Council (SIFC), working alongside military and political leadership, can counter these challenges.
“This unified strategy could set Pakistan on a steady path toward becoming a stronger and self-sufficient economy,” he concluded.
