Youth drowns in Sutlej River while taking selfie in Arifwala

A 22-year-old man lost his life in Arifwala after falling into the Sutlej River while attempting to take a selfie, rescue officials confirmed Monday.

The deceased, identified as Azeem, was capturing a photograph along the riverbank when he reportedly lost his balance and plunged into the fast-flowing waters.

Rescue 1122 teams rushed to the scene immediately, but the high flood levels in the Sutlej have hampered recovery efforts. “The water pressure is extremely high, making the search operation difficult,” rescue sources said.

Authorities have once again urged citizens to avoid risky activities near rivers swollen by monsoon rains, stressing that flood-hit areas remain highly dangerous.
