The Trading Corporation of Pakistan (TCP) on Monday opened tenders for import of 100,000 metric tons of sugar.
On the special instructions of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, the entire process was broadcast live on PTV to ensure transparency.
Representatives of five companies were present at the tender opening ceremony. A representative of Transparency International also attended the tender opening ceremony.
TCP General Manager Shiraz Ali Shahzad opened the tenders in front of all the parties. The government of Pakistan had decided to import 100,000 tons of sugar to meet the demand for sugar in the country and stabilize prices.
Earlier, TCP had opened tenders for import of 200,000 metric tons of sugar on August 21.
The government has decided to import sugar at the official level through TCP. For the same purpose, bids were invited for import of 100,000 tons of sugar on September 8.
