Shershah, nephew of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder Imran Khan and son of Aleema Khan, has been sent to jail on a 14-day judicial remand.
The decision was made by an anti-terrorism court in Lahore in connection with the May 9, 2023 riots.
Shershah was arrested on August 22, one day after the detention of another nephew, Shahrez Khan. Shahrez is also linked to the high-profile Jinnah House attack during the May 9 unrest.
Shershah was held in police custody under a five-day physical remand, which ended on Thursday.
The May 9 riots erupted nationwide after the arrest of Imran Khan in a corruption case. The unrest included violent attacks on military and government installations. The Jinnah House incident became one of the most widely reported events from that day.
During Thursday’s hearing, police requested a 30-day physical remand for Shershah.
They presented video evidence showing him allegedly standing with Hassan Niazi, another nephew of Imran Khan, during the riots.
Shershah’s lawyer, Salman Akram Raja, argued that appearing in a video does not prove any criminal involvement. The court considered arguments from both sides and approved a 14-day judicial remand. Shershah was subsequently sent to jail.
Shershah and Shahrez face multiple charges. These include alleged involvement in the May 9 violence, running an anti-state campaign, arson, vandalism, and torching a police van.
Authorities said Shershah had gone into hiding after the unrest. He reportedly stayed in London for nearly two years before returning to Pakistan.
