The Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee will meet tomorrow (Sunday) to sight the Rabiul Awwal moon, with Eid Milad-un-Nabi (12th Rabi-ul-Awwal) expected to fall on September 5 if the moon is sighted.
The meeting, to be chaired by Committee Chairman Maulana Abdul Khabir Azad, will include scholars, officials from the Ministry of Science and Technology, the Meteorological Department, and the Space and Upper Atmosphere Research Commission (SUPARCO).
Zonal and district moon sighting committees will also meet in their respective areas, forwarding any credible testimonies to the central committee for the final decision.
Meanwhile, SUPARCO has predicted a strong chance of moon sighting on August 24. A spokesperson said the moon is expected to be born on August 23 at 11:06 am, and by the evening of August 24, it will be over 32 hours old. With a 45-minute gap between sunset and moonset in coastal areas, the conditions for sighting are favourable.
If confirmed, the first day of Rabiul Awwal will be on August 25, and Eid Milad-un-Nabi will be observed on Friday, September 5, already declared a public holiday by the federal government earlier this year.
