Those earning under Rs40,000 to get Rs2,000 monthly? Why this video went viral

A video that has been viewed more than 9 million times on social media claims that the government has launched a new financial assistance scheme for individuals whose monthly income is less than 40,000 rupees. According to the video, such individuals will receive 2,000 rupees every month starting from June.

Details indicate that on June 23, a video went viral on social media stating that individuals with a monthly income below 40,000 rupees would be given 2,000 rupees by the federal government.

The video includes a news bulletin from a local news channel, where the anchor announces this alleged new scheme and states that to benefit from it, citizens must send their national identity card number via SMS to 786.

The video further claims that families already registered under the Benazir Income Support Program will receive this amount soon.

However, a private TV channel, in its report, stated that officials from the Ministry of Finance have confirmed that the government has not introduced any such new scheme. The same stance was taken by the Benazir Income Support Program.

According to the report, Muhammad Tariq, the staff officer to the Secretary of the Benazir Income Support Program, also confirmed that no such scheme exists. He said, “No, we are not aware of any such initiative where the government is giving 2,000 rupees to individuals earning less than 40,000 rupees.”
