ISLAMABAD: At least three deaths have been reported as Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) workers took to streets across the country in protest against the arrest of the party’s chairman and former Prime Minister, Imran Khan.
The demonstrations, taking place in Lahore, Quetta, Lower Dir, Gujranwala and elsewhere across the country, had turned violent, resulting in the deaths of at least three people.
According to information gathered by MM News, over 110 individuals have been injured in various incidents, with more than 28 vehicles and a school being set on fire. Buildings, property, and public places have also been attacked, leading to traffic being suspended and normal life being disrupted.
The police have responded by arresting over 150 people, including PTI leader Ali Zaidi, from different cities. The protesters have blocked roads and burnt tires on Canal Road, causing chaos and disruption.
Punjab Caretaker health minister Dr. Javed Ikram has reported that four people have been injured, including three policemen and a cameraman.
In Rawalpindi, PTI workers have protested on Murree Road, while roads have been blocked at Faizabad, leading to the arrest of 43 workers from Pindi.
Meanwhile, PTI workers in Karachi have protested at Insaaf House and closed Shaara Faisal for traffic. The angry protesters have pelted stones at the police, resulting in the police firing tear gas. The protesters have also burnt a police van and damaged other properties, leading to the arrest of 33 activists, including Ali Zaidi.
The violence had also spread to Peshawar, where PTI workers staged a protest and pelted stones at the KP Assembly.
In Quetta, PTI workers took out a rally from the party secretariat, resulting in the blocking of the airport road at two places. The police have clashed with the protesters, resulting in the death of one person and the injury of 40, including 31 police personnel.
In Lower Dir, one person was killed due to firing in violent incidents. Angry protesters set fire to more than 12 vehicles and a school, leading to the injury of three officials, including a DSP. The violent incidents have resulted in one death and 20 injuries.
