MUMBAI: Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan has confirmed that his upcoming film Jawan will be postponed from its original June 2 release date to September 7.
This news comes after weeks of speculation about the film’s release. The announcement was made in a video shared by SRK on his social media, revealing that the film will release in Hindi, Tamil, and Telugu.
The delay in the release of Jawan is said to be due to the visual effects of the movie taking longer than expected to complete. Shah Rukh Khan’s production house, Red Chillies Entertainment, was reportedly calling for visual effects artists to apply for the project until recently. Jawan finished its production not long ago, and a song sequence was shot in Mumbai.
Directed by Atlee, who is best known for his work in Tamil-language cinema, Jawan is reportedly an action film. SRK has expressed his commitment to being an action star after playing romantic heroes throughout his career. The teaser for the film, which was released last year, left fans intrigued by SRK’s character’s unusual appearance and the teaser’s ominous tone. The title “Jawan” also invites speculation, as it could either mean “young” or “soldier” in Hindi.
Meanwhile, 2023 is shaping up to be a grand comeback year for Shah Rukh Khan. His latest film Pathaan marked his return to starring roles after a sabbatical that lasted over five years.
The superstar had decided to step back from acting after his 2018 release, the ambitious romantic drama Zero, bombed critically and commercially. However, keeping a low profile during the COVID era paid off, and his fans showed up in droves to watch Pathaan, which ended its run as the highest-grossing Hindi-language film of all time in India.
