ISLAMABAD: The spokesperson for the Pakistan Ministry of Foreign Affairs has clarified that Foreign Minister did not threaten India for arranging G-20 moot in the illegally occupied Jammu & Kashmir.
Responding to media queries regarding a video clip that insinuated the Foreign Minister of Pakistan had threatened India over the conduct of a G-20 meeting in the Indian-administered territory of Jammu and Kashmir, the spokesperson clarified that during the Foreign Minister’s recent visit to India, he emphasized the importance of UN Security Council resolutions for a peaceful settlement of the Jammu and Kashmir dispute, and based his case on international law. The Ministry had already stated Pakistan’s position on the G-20 Tourism Working Group meeting in its press release of 11 April 2023.
The spokesperson dismissed any insinuation of the Foreign Minister’s remarks being a threat of violence and deemed it highly irresponsible to do so, emphasizing that the key message was conflict resolution through dialogue and in accordance with international law and UN security council resolutions. The spokesperson also emphasized the need for journalistic norms to be respected while reporting on sensitive inter-state matters.
“Any insinuation, associating Foreign Minister’s remarks with a threat of violence, is not only mischievous but highly irresponsible. It is an attempt to shift focus from the Foreign Minister’s key message of conflict resolution through dialogue and in accordance with international law and UN security council resolutions.
The journalistic norms must be respected while reporting on sensitive inter-state matters.” the spokesperson added.
