KARACHI: Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) chief Siraj-ul-Haq has disclosed that Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan had discussed his problems during a recent meeting with him, but did not demand the withdrawal of cases against him in exchange for negotiations with the government on the issue of elections.
Speaking to a private TV channel, Sirajul Haq busted propaganda, peddled by pro-government elements, that both the PTI and the government have agreed to form committees for negotiations, and his party was also in touch with other political parties.

Haq’s comments came after pro-government social media accounts circulated screenshots of a TV channel, claiming that Imran Khan had demanded the withdrawal of cases for talks. The ruling party, Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PMLN), taunted Khan, stating that he was seeking the National Reconciliation Ordinance (NRO) for himself.

Haq added that during the PTI government, former Chief of Army Staff General Qamar Javed Bajwa had once said in an all-parties conference that when politicians did not sit together, they came to fill the gap. He expressed his concerns that if political parties did not resolve their differences, someone else would step in to fill the gap by imposing emergency or martial law.
The issue of conducting elections to the Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa assemblies has been a persistent deadlock between the PTI and the opposition parties, including JI. However, the recent talks between the government and opposition parties have raised hopes for a resolution to the impasse.
