LAHORE: Former PM of Azad Kashmir Sardar Abdul Qayyum Niazi held a meeting with Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaaf Chairman Imran Khan to discuss the situation arising from the disqualification of Azad Kashmir Prime Minister Sardar Tanveer Ilyas Khan.
The meeting came within hours after the disqualification by full court of the Azad Kashmir High Court which barred Sardar Ilyas from being a member of the legislative assembly against contempt for a period of two years.
Following this verdict, Sardar Ilyas no longer holds the office of the AJK prime minister, and the legislative assembly will have to elect a new premier.
Former Prime Minister Imran Khan immediately summoned Sardar Abdul Qayyum Niazi and other Kashmiri leaders to deliberate over the situation. The Kashmiri leaders met at Imran Khan’s residence in Zaman Park, where an important consultation took place regarding the election of the new Prime Minister of Azad Kashmir.
MLA Ghulam Mohiuddin Dewan was also present at the meeting, where the attendees discussed the possibilities for electing a new prime minister for the region.
