ISLAMABAD: President Dr. Arif Alvi has written a letter to concerned ministries in which he has sought to form a judicial commission to investigate into the brutal murder of prominent journalist and TV host Arshad Sharif, who was assassinated under mysterious circumstances in Kenya.

The move came within hours after mother of the slain journo rejected inquiry commission formed by the federal government. She had demanded that the members of the United Nations Human Rights Organization should also be included in the judicial commission to find out facts into the unjust killing of her son. She said the government should form such a commission on which the journalist community and her family could trust.
According to notable lawyer Azhar Siddique Advocate, the letter by President Arif Alvi was sent to the ministries of Interior and Law and Justice, in response to his request to form such a probe commission. Azhar Siddique Advocate said after President’s letter, he has written a reminder to the top brass of the current federal government, urging them to form judicial commission comprising three honorable judges of the High Court or Supreme Court, pursuant to the powers granted onto the federal government under the Pakistan Inquiry Commission Act 2017.
The Federal government, it may be recalled here, had announced on October 25 to form a judicial commission, headed by a sitting judge of High Court, to investigate into the murder of Arshad Sharif. This was followed by a letter, written from General Headquarters of Pakistan Army to the Federal government to form such an investigation commission.
However, the Federal Government on October 31 announced forming a 3-members commission which was headed by a retired High Court Judge Justice (R) Abdul Shakoor Paracha. Justice (R) Paracha, it may be recalled, was a sitting judge in Lahore High Court when he had to resign in 2009 for taking oath under the Nov 3 PCO and for alleged corruption.
