In a country where poverty is widespread, the rulers shouldn’t even consider doing anything else besides finding ways to reduce it.
Pakistan had made considerable progress from the 1960s to the 1970s, and the dams that were constructed during this time are responsible for the water that we use today. This was the era when the rulers used to care for people and the country.
During this period, Pakistan was well-known around the world for its development. Despite the fact that this was a military regime rather than a political one. The world wondered how the country was progressing under a military regime. Because in general nations make progress under democratic governments.
Pakistanis had high hopes from politicians in the 1970s but the country kept struggling economically for subsequent decades. In 2012, when Pakistan’s GDP growth hit rock bottom, the masses almost became hopeless.
It was probably our lowest point in recent history when People had given up hope but then Imran Khan exploited the public sentiments for his own politics in the name of a tsunami, albeit, terms like tsunami are used for calamities. Later, Imran Khan realized that and replaced Tsunami with Azadi March.
In 2014, when this trend crested, Pakistan’s economy was expanding at a ratio of 3.8% to 4.68%, but Imran Khan’s rallies and sit-ins had only one message: change the government.
Imran Khan promised to liberate Pakistan once again. He said we would develop strategies to alleviate poverty, everyone would receive swift and affordable justice, the corruption would end, and quality education would be provided for kids.
Moreover, Imran Khan pledged to reduce the cost of doing business. Mian Nawaz Sharif, the then ruler, said that Pakistan could never develop amid protests and sit-ins. Nawaz Sharif said Pakistan was already a free country, therefore, stop inciting people in the name of freedom.
However, Imran Khan ignored it as political rhetoric and started a movement. Finally, when Imran Khan came into power, the masses realized that the inflation, which had been a storm before 2017, turned into a hurricane. Imran Khan was unable to control the inflation. Although, minsters came and went, but the situation remained out of control.
The situation had gotten so terrible that every politician was terming the country’s ecomony impossible to manage. Keeping these things in mind, People began to turn against the PTI and Imran Khan’s government was overthrown.
Inflation further increased further after PDM government took over. Shahbaz Sharif could not control inflation due to Imran Khan’s policies. And Imran Khan took the advantage of the situation and told people that the rulers of Pakistan are thieves, it is an imported government. And just like 2014 started another movement.
People do not understand that when Pakistan’s GDP was growing in Nawaz Sharif’s government, Imran Khan brought people to the streets in the name of Azadi March. What happened then? During the reign of Imran Khan, people’s problems multiplied.
All of Pakistan is currently engulfed in floods. Politicians are determined to stage sit-ins and agitate the public, but nobody is considering the plight of the flood victims.
In this time when other nations come to the aid of Pakistani flood-victims, the politicians are protesting on the streets. They must be wondering why Pakistani are not helping their own people.
PTI is demanding new elections. Is there any benefit to the people by holding elections? Or is it for their own sake? Politicians are once again fighting only for their own rule while exploiting the masses and their problems.
It’s time to ditch politics of protests, and focus on economy and poverty alleviation, so that the people of Pakistan can lead a better life.
