LAHORE: Keeping in view the recent spike in COVID-19 infections, the Punjab government has imposed a smart lockdown in a few areas of Lahore identified as the coronavirus hotspot.
According to a notification from the provincial government’s health department, “There shall be ‘controlled entry and exit’ in the areas of district Lahore identified as hotspots of COVID-19.”
All markets, shopping malls, restaurants, offices (public and private) shall remain closed in the areas where the smart lockdown has been imposed.
A complete ban on the movement of people to and from these areas has been instilled except for “limited movement of one person per vehicle to and from the exempted facilities”.
The Punjab government decided that there shall also be a complete ban on gatherings of all kinds for social, religious, or any other purpose at any place, public or private throughout these areas.
Most of the areas where the ‘smart lockdown’ was suggested were in Cantonment, Defence Housing Authority and Samanabad. According to the notification, the lockdown was imposed in Phase 4, Phase 2, of DHA, Ghazi Road and Walton Road of Cantt, Gulshan Block of Iqbal Town, Chauburji Park area, Bund Road, Wahdat Road, Islampura and Sodiwal.
