ISLAMABAD: Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi today (Tuesday) has termed Kashmir and Palestine disputes as the ‘most glaring issues’ of the United Nations.
“The people of Indian occupied Kashmir and occupied Palestine still await the fulfillment of the right of self-determination,” he said in a series of tweets on the 75th anniversary of the United Nations.
The Jammu and Kashmir & Palestine disputes are @UN’s most glaring & long standing failures.

“We the people of United Nation must rise up to meet the global challenges faced, both historic and current, while we have seen enormous international cooperation to combat the COVID-19 pandemic, it has failed to unify humanity as it could have,” he added.
FM Qureshi warned that the forces that led to the Second World War, racism and fascism were taking the shape of rising xenophobia and Islamophobia.
“We should prevent forebodings from turning into self-fulfilling prophecies. In this noble endeavour, the United Nations will always find Pakistan by its side,” he remarked.
In another Tweet, FM Qureshi said, “On UN’s 75th anniversary, Pakistan reaffirms our ardent commitment to upholding the spirit of multilateralism. It is our conviction that for the UN, its values and its architecture, there is no alternative”.

Meanwhile, addressing at a high-level meeting marking the landmark occasion, Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi told world leaders via video-link that The UN was hope born of the ashes of unmitigated suffering of war and misplaced notions of the superiority of some over the others.
The Kashmir dispute between India and Pakistan is on the agenda of the UN Security Council, which has adopted at least 11 resolutions since 1948 that call for an impartial plebiscite to determine the wishes of the people in the disputed state.
