ISLAMABAD: Federal Minister for Information and Broadcasting Shibli Faraz has said that Karachi’s Administrator, Pakistan Army, Corps Commander Karachi and NDMA are responsible to ensure transparency in Karachi Transformation Plan.

Addressing a press conference in Islamabad today, Shibli Faraz said, “The truth is that we cannot entrust the Sindh government with these funds”.

The minister said, “Karachi is the economic hub of the country, the development of Karachi is the guarantor of the country’s development.”

He also vowed that the people of Karachi would not be abandoned by the PTI-led federal government.

He said the incompetence of the Sindh government was on full display in the recent rains.

“There is a lack of trust between the Sindh government and center. He said the provincial government is responsible for it. NFC award’s funds are nowhere to be seen in Sindh, he questioned.

Shibli Faraz said that when an agreement is reached, both parties should refrain from making irresponsible statements, in fact, the Sindh government should show act more responsibly.

“Despite inadequate resources, we will complete these projects and do all that is essential for the people of Sindh and Karachi by working with consensus,” he added.

The minister said that out of Rs 1100 billion allocated for Karachi, Rs 254 billion was earmarked for cleaning drains and encroachments.

He further said that K4 will cost Rs 46 billion and circular railway Rs 300 billion. Some projects will be completed in one, some in two years, he added.

Faraz said that the PTI government, under the dynamic leadership of PM Imran, is making the decisions in the larger national interest which are fully supported by military leadership.

Talking about PML-N, Faraz said Shahid Khaqan should respond to the allegations against him on a private channel instead of hurling abuses at the government.

“The PPP and Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) leaders are only demanding NROs to escape from accountability, he added.

Earlier, Prime Minister Imran Khan announced a ‘historic’ relief package worth Rs1.1 trillion for development projects in Karachi, saying that the package will address the chronic municipal and infrastructure issues of the country’s financial hub.
