ISLAMABAD: The Islamabad High Court today (Saturday) has directed the authorities to recover ‘missing’ Securities and Exchange Commission of Pakistan’s (SECP) Additional Joint Director Sajid Gondal by Monday.
The court issued the orders during a hearing of the petition filed yesterday by Gondal’s mother, Asmat Bibi over her son’s disappearance.
During the hearing, IHC Chief Justice Athar Mianullah remarked that if Gondal was not recovered by 2 pm on Monday, then the interior secretary, IG Islamabad, and the chief commissioner would need to appear before the court.
The court further directed that the matter be referred to the federal cabinet. “The matter should be taken up at the next cabinet meeting if Gondal is not found,” the court added. A copy of the court’s order was also sent to the secretary Cabinet Division in this regard.
Gondal’s mother asserted that her son did not have enmity with anyone. In this regard, Justice Minallah said, “The abduction of a citizen from the capital in such a manner is extremely alarming.”
The SECP official went missing on Thursday evening. At about 7:30 pm, Gondal left his home, situated in Shahzad Town, but never came back. His car was found parked on Main Park Road, near the National Agriculture Research Centre office, Islamabad.
The abduction prompted top government officials, including the human rights minister and the premier’s aide on accountability, Shahzad Akbar, to issue directives for his early recovery.
