KARACHI: National Disaster Management Authority has established 32 medical camps and 56 relief camps in Karachi and evacuated more than 8,700 marooned people from flash flood-hit areas.
Relief and rescue operation is underway in rains affected areas of Karachi. Army, Rangers, Pakistan Navy, and Civil Administration along with NDMA are busy in the ongoing operation.
According to NDMA, 175 families were evacuated from Yousaf Goth, Sanjrani Town and adjoining Goths, while around three hundred persons were evacuated in district Dadu.
The World Health Organisation (WHO) handed over relief items including, health emergency kits, surgical masks, and protective equipment for health care workers to the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA).
The downpour last week left roads across Karachi flooded and triggered power outages. Many cities of lower Sindh and other provinces were affected as well.
According to NDMA’s statement, the relief items included three rescue boats for flash floods in Sindh. Chairman NDMA Lt Gen Muhammad Afzal lauded the effective role of NDMA in dealing with the emergency.
On the occasion, the head of WHO in Pakistan, Dr Palitha Gunarathna Mahipala, praised the role of Pakistan and NDMA in controlling the coronavirus. He said Pakistan has successfully overcome COVID-19 due to effective coordination and timely decisions.
