KARACHI: The Sindh Local Government Department has suspended Municipal Commissioner Akhtar Sheikh on the charges of corruption and illegal installation of signboards.
According to a notification, Akhtar Ali Sheikh, BPS-19 officer of SCUG Service (Admin Branch) Municipal Commissioner, District Municipal Corporation (South), is hereby placed under suspension with immediate effect.
“During his suspension, his Head Quarter is fixed at Sindh Local Government Board. He would be charged sheeted in due course of time,” the notification stated.
Akhtar Ali Sheikh is a close relative of Local Government Secretary Roshan Ali Sheikh, who was earlier arrested by National Accountability Bureau (NAB).
Relevant sources have informed that the reason for removing Akhtar Sheikh from office was that he had been involved in issuing illegal permits of the illegal signboards.
Akhtar Ali Sheikh was appointed Municipal Commissioner in Eastern Municipality a few months ago. However, he was later transferred and posted as Municipal Commissioner South due to investigation of Anti-Corruption Establishment.
