KARACHI: Pakistani human rights lawyer Mary James Gill has bagged the 2020 Anna Lindh Prize for her campaign highlighting the working conditions of sanitation workers in Pakistan.
Women In Law, an organization working for equal opportunities for female lawyers, praised Mary James Gill who previously worked at the firm.

Mary James Gill is a politician, lawyer, and human rights, activist. She bagged the prize for her campaign named ‘Sweepers Are Superheroes’ to outline working conditions towards sanitation workers and garbage collectors. The campaign aims to bring dignity, safety, and social protection to the sanitation sector in Pakistan.
Anna Lindh Prize aims to encourage primarily women and youth who, show the courage to work against indifference, prejudice, oppression, and injustice in order to stimulate a society where human rights are respected. The Prize is awarded as encouragement for ongoing projects.
