KARACHI: Chief Justice of Pakistan Gulzar Ahmed has taken suo moto notice of a billboard falling in the metropolis during the current monsoon spell.
A video of the incident had gone viral on social media platforms. The incident occurred near Karachi’s Metropole Chowrangi, injuring two motorcyclists. The injured people were later shifted to hospitals.
In this regard, the chief justice took suo motu notice today (Saturday). The Supreme Court has issued notices to the Center, Sindh government and the Karachi Metropolitan Corporation. The case has been fixed for hearing on Monday.
Earlier in 2018, the apex court had passed an order to remove billboards from all public properties across the city. Despite the orders, billboards have been installed on all major roads of Karachi.
At least 11 people died in separate rain-related incidents in the metropolis during the current monsoon spell as Karachi again received moderate showers for the third consecutive day.
According to details, almost 8 people, including two children, were killed due to electrocution while a 12-year-old boy died after drowning in a canal near Bhains Colony in Karachi’s Surjani Town.
In another incident, two members of a family died when the roof of the house collapsed in the Lyari’s Jahanabad area. Health officials informed that the roof collapsed due to heavy rains.
