KARACHI: The government of Sindh has decided not to close markets and shopping centres before Eid-ul-Azha.
Minister for Information Nasir Hussain Shah said the minister will not further tighten the lockdown. He said the lockdown in Punjab is the decision of the provincial government, while Sindh will maintain existing lockdown measures.
The minister said markets and shopping centres will continue to remain open till 7:00 in the evening before Eid-ul-Azha, and the government will ensure enforcement of the Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
Yesterday, the Sindh government extended the operational timings of cattle markets which will remain open from 7AM to 11PM.
According to a notification issued by the home department, the provincial government has made the decision in light of the National Command and Control Centre’s directives.
The provincial government had allowed the cattle markets to operate from 6am-7pm. Commissioner Karachi had also enacted Section 144 in Karachi against illegally formed cattle markets.
Iftikhar Shalwani said that a cattle market set up without prior permission from officials would be deemed illegal. He said strict action will be taken against the formation of illegal cattle markets.
