ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Imran Khan has expressed his determination to remove every obstacle in the way of building affordable housing for the poor segment of the society.
The statement came while chairing a meeting of the National Coordinating Committee for Housing today (Thursday). Several federal ministers, chief secretaries, and bank officials attended the meeting.
During the meeting, the banks presented a plan for housing loans to the Prime Minister and said that increasing investment would provide more business opportunities.
On the occasion, the premier asserted that the affordable housing project will increase employment opportunities in the country. “The project of affordable housing will soon pick up the pace,” he added.
He expressed hope that the affordable housing project would help revitalize Pakistan’s economy. “The construction of affordable houses will have an immediate positive impact on 17 industries,” he remarked.
During the meeting, it was decided that the National Bank, Bank of Punjab, Khyber Bank would take the lead in the loan scheme while all other banks would take the lead in the housing scheme.
Earlier on July 10, PM Imran said that one lakh houses would be built in the first phase of the Naya Pakistan Housing Project, for which a subsidy of Rs 30 billion has been given.
