ISLAMABAD: Federal Minister for Science and Technology Fawad Chaudhry has asserted that non-elected individuals cannot participate in decision-making under a parliamentary system of governance.
The statement of the Minister came after it emerged that four special assistants of the Prime Minister hold dual nationalities.
Talking to journalists in Islamabad today (Monday), Fawad Chaudhry clarified that under the Constitution dual nationals were barred from becoming the assembly member. “How can dual nationals be part of the cabinet?” he questioned.
“Currently, the problems faced by the PTI-led federal government are created by its own members. Pakistanis have pinned high hopes and expectations from the PTI government,” he remarked.
Referring to Pakistan Television Network (PTV), the federal minister said that the channel has no business plan, but has increased fees. “I have expressed my concerns in the cabinet in this regard,” he added.
Commenting on the development projects, he said that Pakistan’s first civil defence Research and Development (R&D) project has started under which 10 police stations in Islamabad have been redesigned. “Police would be provided with drones for patrolling purposes,” he announced.
“An agriculture service company would be established with 600 people where soil testing and drone spray will be the top priority,” he added/
PTI members and opposition continued to snipe at each other after the government disclosed details of the assets and nationalities of advisers and special assistants to the prime minister.
Earlier on Saturday, Information Minister Shibli Faraz announced that the information is now available for public viewing. It was revealed that four aides — Nadeem Babar, Tania Aidrus, Zulfi Bukhari, and Shahzad Syed Qasim — have other nationalities.
