Opposition criticizes govt after revelations about aides’ nationalities

ISLAMABAD: The Opposition has criticized the PTI-led federal government after it disclosed the asset details and dual nationalities of 20 Special Assistants and Advisors to Prime Minister.
According to the documents issued by the government, four SAPMs hold dual nationalities. The SAPMs include SAPM on Petroleum Nadeem Babar (US), SAPM on Overseas Pakistanis Syed Zulfiqar Abbas Bukhari (UK), SAPM on Power Division Shahzad Qasim (US) and SAPM on Digital Pakistan Tania S. Aidrus (Canada).
Aides holding residency of other countries are SAPM on Political Affairs Shahbaz Gill (US), SAPM on National Security Moeed Yousuf (US), SAPM on Parliamentary Coordination Nadeem Afzal Gondal (Canada) and Aidrus (Singapore).
In this regard, PPP Senator Sherry Rehman took to Twitter and questioned, “How advisors and aides who sit in the federal cabinet can be dual national when members of the parliament can’t?”

Four now narrowed down in media. If members of parliament can’t be dual nationals how can advisors and aides who sit in cabinet? https://t.co/TCMBQqVaDH

The PPP Senator further said, “Prime Minister Imran Khan has repeatedly said he stands against government aides, advisors, ministers who swear an oath of allegiance to another country. What happened to Made in Pakistan?”
Sindh government spokesperson Murtaza Wahab called the presence of aides in the federal cabinet with dual nationalities a security risk. “The constitution of Pakistan does not allow dual nationals to join the cabinet or become members of parliament,” he added.
PPP Information Secretary Nafisa Shah has said that the revelations had opened a ‘Pandora’s box’.  She said, “The selected Prime Minister has been exposed after the revelations.”
She also questioned that how can someone who have pledged their allegiance to another country be expected to be sincere with Pakistan.
PML-N spokesperson Marriyum Aurangzeb took to Twitter and shared a video of PM Imran. In the video, the current prime Minister is expressing his views on politicians and members of parliament holding dual nationalities.
Marriyum Aurangzeb said: “His hypocrisy is shameless as his duplicity is destroying a nation. All Imran Khan is missing is a flute.”
