KARACHI: Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah has said that 27 more people have died due to the deadly coronavirus in the last 24 hours, taking the provincial death toll to 1,205.
Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah said on Friday that 1,150 new cases have been reported in Sindh taking the tally to more than 76,318.
The CM said out of the new cases reported, 1,050 were recorded from Karachi, 22 from Hyderabad, seven each from Jamshoro and Ghotki.
He said 1,252 patients recovered and were sent home. He further said total recoveries in Sindh have reached 41,992. “The ratio of recoveries is 54 percent in the province,” he added.
Earlier, Sindh Chief Minister Qaim Ali Shah has claimed that late religious scholars, Munawar Hassan and Talib Johri were infected with the COVID-19.
He made the revelation during the Sindh Assembly session today. He said that Mufti Naeem’s family was also suffering from the virus. However, he said Mufti Naeem’s COVID-19 test could not be conducted.
Later, Murad Ali Shah apologized over his statement regarding the Syed Munawar Hasan. Shah withdrew his statement minutes after telling the provincial assembly’s session that Syed Munawar Hasan died of COVID-19.
In his clarification, the chief minister said that he has mistakenly delivered the statement as Munawar Hasan was not detected with COVID-19.
The clarification was followed by the statement of Hasan’s physicians where they rejected the claims of the chief minister, saying that the former JI chief was not detected with COVID-19 during his ailment period.
During the Sindh Assembly session, CM Murad also criticized the PM Imran over his remarks about Osama bin Laden in the National Assembly. Shah added it is not wise for the head of the state to issue such remarks.
“People hatched conspiracies against the Pakistan Peoples Party but they failed in their evil designs. “PPP will remain in power till the time God wishes,” he remarked.
