RAWALPINDI: The Rawalpindi district court has decided to digitise all court records to facilitate litigants and lawyers and bring it at par with modern technology.
The judicial staff at the district courts are preparing to establish a digital records room and the records of all verdicts and case-related documents will now be digitalised instead of keeping hard copies, officials told a local daily.
The existing records room at the Rawalpindi District Kuchery is over a century old and is housed in a building. The case files, records and other documents remain in a dismal condition. All case records will be maintained digitally after the digital record room is completed.
The decision on digitising case records was taken two years ago but the project was never implemented. The court management has commenced work on the project and it is expected to be completed soon.
The availability of digital records will benefit litigants who will no longer be required to visit the courts to acquire documents such as verdicts and case files and can apply for them online and receive them through e-mail.
The new system will also end the culture of bribes prevailing in the lower courts as litigants usually make underhand payments to court staff to get their files.
