KARACHI: As many as 9,809 patients of COVID-19 have recovered across the country during the last 24 hours, taking the total tally of recuperated patients to 50, 056.
In the positive development, around 32pc patients have been fully recovered from the disease. Total recoveries in Sindh 23,113, In Punjab 17, 560 in Punjab, 4, 072 in KP, 762 in Balochistan, 2,722 in GB, 676 in Islamabad and 242 in Azad Jammu and Kashmir.
The number of confirmed coronavirus cases has surged to 132,405 in Pakistan, while the death toll stands at 2,496. According to the National Command and Control Center (NCOC), more than 6,472 cases of coronavirus were reported while 88 people succumbed to the disease in the last 24 hours.
As per details, 21 percent of the cases have foreign travel history while 79 percent of the cases are reported to be locally transmitted.
There have been 47,382 cases reported in Punjab, 49,256 in Sindh, 15,415 in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, 7,673 in Balochistan, 6,699 in Islamabad, 534 in Azad Jammu and Kashmir and 1,044 in Gilgit Baltistan.
Out of a total of 2,496 deaths, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa has reported 642 deaths, Sindh 793, Balochistan 80, Gilgit-Baltistan 16, Punjab 890, Azad Kashmir 10 and Islamabad Capital Territory has reported 65 deaths.
Meanwhile, Authorities have sealed more than 1,300 COVID-19 hotspots across the country to limit the spread of new infections.
According to government officials, the sealing of high-risk areas comes as the government’s coronavirus portal reported 6,472 new cases in the last 24 hours.
After initially imposing a nationwide lockdown, the government has now eased restrictions, saying it was necessary to save the country’s economy, but it has caused a surge in COVID-19 cases. PM Imran Khan has resisted demands from experts to reinforce the lockdown.
Officials, however, are now using the term “smart lockdown” to close shops and markets and force citizens to stay home in areas where confirmed cases have increased. According to reports, smart lockdowns have been imposed in certain virus hotspots around the country.
In Punjab, a smart lockdown has been imposed in 844 areas. In Sindh, a smart lockdown has been imposed in seven areas. In Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, 414 areas, in Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK), 12 areas and in Gilgit-Baltistan, five areas.
Some residential areas were also sealed in the capital, Islamabad, to contain the spread of the COVID-19. The capital administration sealed two sub-sectors in G-9 from Friday night after the number of coronavirus cases there reached 300.
