LONDON: Health experts have termed US President Donald Trump’s suggestion crazy as he advised to inject disinfectant as a way to cure COVID-19.
The experts urged people not to drink or inject disinfectant after Donald Trump suggested that scientists should investigate inserting the disinfectant, a cleaning agent, into a human body.
A professor of medicine at Britain’s University of East Anglia, Paul Hunter said, “This is an absolutely dangerous crazy suggestion.” He said, “You may not die of COVID-19 after injecting disinfectant, but only because you may already be dead from the injection.”
Earlier on Thursday during a daily media briefing, Trump said that scientists should explore whether inserting light or disinfectant into the bodies of people infected with the new coronavirus might help them clear the disease.
“Is there a way we can do something like that by injection, inside, or almost a cleaning?” he said. “It would be interesting to check that.”
Moreover, a leading disinfectant producer issued a strong warning not to use its products on the human body after Trump’s statement that such products could potentially be used to treat coronavirus.
Reckitt Benckiser, which owns Lysol and Dettol, said that under no circumstance should its products be injected or ingested.
He revealed, “Disinfectants are hazardous substances and can be poisonous if ingested.” He further said, “Even external exposure can be dangerous to the skin, eyes and respiratory system.”
