LAHORE: Punjab health authorities on Saturday reported 74 new cases of the novel COVID-19, taking the provincial tally of the coronavirus cases to 2,410.
According to a statement issued by spokesperson for the Primary and Secondary Healthcare Department, 74 new cases were reported today of them, 701 were detected among pilgrims at quarantine centres, while 747 among members of Tableeghi Jamaat.
Moreover, 80 prisoners and 882 citizens tested positive for the COVID-19 in the province. Thus far, 21 coronavirus-related deaths have been reported with 39 people recovering from the disease.
Meanwhile, the Punjab government has decided to extend the lockdown across the province till 21st April due to rising coronavirus cases.
The lockdown imposed after the COVID-129 epidemic will now persist till April 21, which was to end on April 14. According to officials, all the measures being taken to curb the coronavirus will be implemented strictly during the lockdown.
Suggestions are being reviewed for the opening of more industries in the province during lockdown. The official announcement of extending lockdown in Punjab will be made by Chief Minister Usman Buzdar on Monday, said a government official.
